DiDonato Touts 62-1 Southwest Winner

Franklin Ave. Managing Partner Brian DiDonato took a commanding lead in the TDN’s Road to the Triple Crown Throwdown after Super Steed (Super Saver) uncorked a powerful turn move and found enough late to upend Monday’s GIII Southwest S. at Oaklawn. DiDonato loved Super Steed going into last month’s Smarty Jones S., but the colt never made any impact and finished far back. Having paid particularly close attention to the Hot Springs oval this meet with a number of Franklin Ave.’s runners based there with Jason Barkley and plans to claim more, DiDonato gave Super Steed another chance in the Southwest mostly due to a speed bias that had been prevalent at the start of the meet. That read certainly paid off at the windows on President’s Day, and will hopefully pay off at the claim box as Franklin Ave. and Barkley begin acquiring runners for their new claiming venture.
